Merwine Kennels, owned and operated by Patricia Merwine, is located on Evergreen Hollow Road in Effort, Pennsylvania. Since 1986, Merwine Kennels has been one of the best boarding facilities in the area. Set back in the countryside, Merwine Kennels offers a peaceful stay for your pets. Many of our regular clients refer to the kennels as a "doggy camp." We offer the most comfortable facilities and serene atmospheres for your pets. It surely is a five-star resort in the eyes of your loved ones! Our kennel is small compared to most other kennels in the area. We don't crate your dog; they get their own spacious run. Bringing your pet to a small kennel ensures that your "baby" is getting the best care and attention possible. Not only is your pet in good hands, but you, the owner, are too!

Merwine Kennels has recently been renovated to make sure that we are providing the best for your pets. We now have installed a MONITOR PROPANE HEATING SYSTEM, not only to provide warmth, but safety from fire and fumes to your pets. Also, our newest feature is PORCELAIN TILE FLOORING, which allows for drier, cleaner, more home-like facilities. Our other features include: HEATED FLOORS, CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING, CENTRAL STEREO, ELEVATED BEDDING DECKS, ELEVATED FEEDING SURFACES, INDOOR/OUTDOOR RUNS, a private DOG WALK, three sets of SAFETY ESCAPE GATES, and a VET ON-CALL twenty-four hours a day.

Boarding Information:

Being a small kennel, we cannot normally accommodate walk-ins. Please call as far in advance as possible. We fill up fast, especially around holidays.

All boarders must present a copy of their pet’s updated shot records upon boarding with us. Immunizations required: DHLP (Distemper/Parvo), BORDETELLA (Kennel Cough), and RABIES.

We feed our boarders Nutrena Loyall pet food. It is a very nutritious diet that won't upset your furry friend's stomach. More information can be found at http://www.loyallpetfood.com/. All boarders are welcome to bring their own food, however. We recommend that you bring your own food if your dog is a puppy or is older and may not be able to tolerate a food change. You may also bring toys (no smaller than a tennis ball please), bedding and bowls (although we provide disinfected bedding areas and bowls here), and treats. For first-time boarders and for sensitive boarders, we recommend that you bring an unwashed article of clothing, kitchen rug, towel, blanket, or something else with your scent on it.

Kennel Hours: Regular Drop-off and Pick-up times are Monday through Friday 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 to 6:15 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. and 4:00-5:00 p.m. or by appointment. Closed Sundays and Holidays. (Hours are subject to change. Call to verify hours. You will be notified of hours if you have an appointment.)

Kennel Rates: Rates may vary depending upon size of dog, number of pets, length of stay, etc. We never charge additional fees for pets that require medications or dogs that need extra walks and special attention. Please call for current rates.

Grooming Services: Regular grooming is one step closer to a healthier, happier, more beautiful pet. Each pet that stays with us is bathed and brushed before they go home. We also offer more extensive grooming services to our regular clients by appointment only.

Sales: We carry top-of-the-line dog food and products. Our kennel is a proud carrier of Nutrena Loyall, Royal Canin, Pro-Pet, and ProPac dog and cat foods. We also carry the line of Quadruped pet shampoos, conditioners, and deodorants. You will also find collars, leashes, training supplies, toys, grooming brushes, biscuits, vitamin supplements, and Brewer's Yeast supplements in our office. The office is open during kennel hours or by appointment.
